Data, imports and deletion

How do I import users into a dataset or table User field?

Put the user's email in the CSV column; over the API, send a user object with _id, Name and Email instead of a plain string.

Fix

Short answer: In a CSV, put each user's email address in the User column. Over the API, send a user object, not a plain string.

Why it happens

  • A User field stores a user record, not text. CSV imports match emails to users in User management.
  • The API rejects a plain string with InvalidUserFormat.

How to fix it

For a CSV import:

  1. Put the user's email address in the User column.
  2. Make sure each user exists in User management.
  3. Map the column to the User field and run the import. See importing data into a dataset.

For an API call or table import:

  1. Get the user's ID from the user API.
  2. Send the value as an object:
{"_id": "<user id>", "Name": "<name>", "Email": "<email>"}

Tip

Dataset exports include a column with each user's email next to the User ID and name, which you can reuse for re-imports.
