Building integrations

Can I rerun an integration from the beginning, or retrigger it for a completed item?

Rerun restarts a failed run from the step that failed, using saved data. You can't restart from the trigger or retrigger an integration for a completed item.

How-to

Short answer: Rerun picks up a failed run at the step that failed, using the data saved from earlier steps. You can't restart a run from the trigger, and you can't retrigger an integration for an item that has already completed.

Why it happens

  • Run history keeps the payload of every step. Rerun reuses it instead of firing the trigger again.
  • Triggers fire on workflow events. Once an item completes, there's no event left to fire.

How to fix it

  1. Open Run history and select the failed run.
  2. If the payload was wrong, find it on the Output data tab of the failed action. Then open the Input data tab, click Edit, and fix the values. You can also click Edit payload on the run in Run history. See editing payloads.
  3. Click Rerun.
  4. To retry many failed runs at once, use bulk rerun. You can select up to 100 runs.

For intermittent failures, such as a 500 error on Send an email, a plain rerun usually succeeds. To handle temporary failures such as timeouts and rate limits without stepping in, turn on Auto retry in the integration header. It retries the failed step up to four times within about three minutes. A retry repeats the step, so it can create a duplicate email or record.

Important

Run history is kept for the last 100 days. Only runs with a Failed status can be rerun, not successful or in-progress ones.
