Fix locale-specific number and currency formats in emails and integrations

Add a computed text field that formats the amount with the separators your readers expect, and use it in emails and integrations.

Tip

Short answer: Integrations don't apply regional number formats. Add a computed text field that formats the amount with the separators you need, and map that field instead of the number.

When to use this

Use this when people in different regions read the same amounts. For example, a value shown as 565.446.758,00 on the form may appear in an email integration with US separators, or unformatted, and confuse the reader.

Set it up

  1. Keep the user's input in a Number field, for example Amount.
  2. Add a Text field, for example Converted_Amount, and turn on Is this a computed field?.
  3. To get European-style separators, enter: number(Amount.toText().replace(",", "")).toText("#,##0.00").replace(",", "|").replace(".", ",").replace("|", ".") This formats the number with US separators, then swaps the comma and the period.
  4. Click Evaluate to check the output, then save.
  5. In the integration, map Converted_Amount wherever the amount appears.

Tip

For generated documents, you don't need a formula. Pick the separator style with the template's Format button.
