Workflows and approvals

Why does submitting fail with "unexpected error" or "another user is updating it"?

A Goto is sending the item into steps that are all skipped by their conditions, which creates a loop. Fix the Goto targets and conditions, then retest in Simulate.

Fix

Short answer: The workflow has a loop. A Goto sends the item to a step that its own condition skips, which sends it on to another skipped step, and the item never lands anywhere.

Why it happens

  • A Goto jumps the item to a named step when its conditions are met.
  • If the target step's condition skips it, the item moves on. When that chain leads back through skipped steps, submission fails with an error such as KISSFLOW_ERROR_01095.

How to fix it

  1. Open Edit process > Workflow.
  2. Find the step where submission fails and look at any Goto right after it.
  3. Check the condition on each Goto target step. Make sure the item can actually enter the step you're sending it to.
  4. Change the Goto target or the step condition so the path ends on a step the item can enter.
  5. Publish the process.
  6. Test the same data in Simulate before going live.
