Fix
Short answer: In a CSV, put each user's email address in the User column. Over the API, send a user object, not a plain string.
Why it happens
- A User field stores a user record, not text. CSV imports match emails to users in User management.
- The API rejects a plain string with
InvalidUserFormat.
How to fix it
For a CSV import:
- Put the user's email address in the User column.
- Make sure each user exists in User management.
- Map the column to the User field and run the import. See importing data into a dataset.
For an API call or table import:
- Get the user's ID from the user API.
- Send the value as an object:
{"_id": "<user id>", "Name": "<name>", "Email": "<email>"}Tip
Dataset exports include a column with each user's email next to the User ID and name, which you can reuse for re-imports.
